Contraception services

Our contraceptive service is not just about contraception but is about how people look after themselves during their reproductive years, including pre- conception and menopausal care and sexual health.

ContraceptionPlease note that under 16s can be seen without an adult and the consultation will be confidential.

Contraception advice is available from the Doctors and Practice Nurses. If you would like to discuss this please ask the receptionist for an appointment.

A full range of modern contraceptive services are available including condoms, pills and long acting methods of contraception such as injections, coils (IUD/IUS) and implants.

Visit the Clinical Commissioning Group website for more information.

Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraceptionThe best method is the emergency IUD (coil) which is nearly 100% effective and can be left in place to be used as ongoing contraception if you wish. It can be fitted for up to 5 days after the episode of unprotected sex.

The morning after pill can also be taken up to 5 days after the episode of unprotected sex. Please ask at your GP surgery for further details

Sexual HealthSexual Health

We offer opportunistic chlamydia testing for those aged 16-24, as well as sexual health blood tests for all ages. For further information on sexual health and STIs please click here.

Termination of Pregnancy

If you are considering termination or require advice on your options when pregnant, please contact the Western Cheshire Abortion Service on 01244376690.  You can also contact the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) directly on 08457 304030 or visit http://www.bpas.org/bpaswoman.

Consultations take place in Chester but surgical abortions are done in Liverpool.
You do not need to contact your GP surgery as both will accept self referrals.
Your local hospital abortion service offers counselling, a full range of contraception and sexual infection testing, a scan and a choice of treatment up to 13 weeks of pregnancy.
